I have been surrounded by art and creativity for as long as I can remember.  My father was an art director for a large pharmaceutical firm and as a young boy I would join him on photo shoots.  

I took my first instructional photography class in eighth grade.  Throughout my high school years I tried to fine tune my “eye” and understanding of photography by taking as many art classes as I could. This love of the medium naturally led to studying photography at Utah State University, culminating with an art degree in 1988.

After college, I worked at several large photography studios that specialized in catalogue photography. Crafting pictures in a studio helped me understand the importance of lighting, balance and composition.  Each product had a story to tell in one picture and I had to learn to convey that feeling. I shot everything from large furniture sets to small appliances and jewelry; each photo told a different story about the client’s product.
